When I started making my own granola at home, I had one of those “aha” moments as my friend Oprah likes to say. I couldn’t help but wonder why I didn’t start sooner! I used to hate buying store-bought granola because I always felt like it had way too much sugar, and why on earth were they using canola oil?!
Making your own granola just makes sense! because it is:
- So easy to make.
- Extremely delicious.
- It is way healthier than store-bought granola. No canola oil or excessive sugar like most store-bought brands.
- Customizable. There is nothing I hate more than brands skimping on the good stuff. When you make it yourself, you can add as much of the good stuff as you want.
- It is way cheaper.
- Do you really need another reason?
I always have this granola on hand because I am addicted to Açaí bowls, and we all know that no Açaí bowl is complete without some good granola on top. But granola is also delicious with yogurt, oat milk and berries, or even just as a snack on its own.

Healthy Granola Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups rolled oat (you can also use certified gluten-free)
- 1 1/2 cups raw nuts and seeds (I like using pecans, cashews, almonds, and pumpkin seeds)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon (or less if you are not a cinnamon fan)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (or to taste)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- optional additions once the granola has cooled: dried fruit, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, hemp seeds, chia seed, dark chocolate chips
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, add the oats, nuts and seeds, cinnamon, and the salt. Mix until well combined.
- Add the vanilla, maple syrup, and coconut oil. Mix until well combined. Transfer to the baking sheet and spread in one even layer, if you like your granola clumpy, press tight.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, mixing it halfway through.
- Once fully cooled, if you would like, you can now add the “optional” additions such as the dried fruit, chocolate chips, etc.
- Store in an airtight container or jar at room temperature for 2-3 weeks, or in the freezer for 3 months.
- Enjoy!
- If you are planning to use your granola on Açaí bowls/ any other frozen delights, you might want to skip the dried fruit, the cold temperature will harden the fruit and make it harder to chew.
- Your granola might not seem done, but it is! It will continue to crisp as it cools. Be careful not to over bake it.
